(CTN News) – As they prepare to travel more this year than last, seven out of ten Thais questioned said they want to take three or four holidays, according to the inaugural American Express Travel, Dining, and Luxury Trends Research for Thailand.
The top travel motivations for Thai respondents who want to go this year include fulfilling a lifelong ambition or bucket list trip (68%), commemorating a holiday or significant life event (47%), and embarking on a romantic getaway (43%).
Shorter excursions are preferred by 55% of Thais during the weekend or long weekend, while longer vacations—more than a week—are preferred by 39% of them. According to a poll, 54% of customers said they preferred domestic travel, while 29% said they preferred foreign travel.
Seven out of ten Thai respondents said they planned to visit Japan in 2024, making it their preferred foreign destination by far. According to a poll, the top domestic tourism destinations for Thais are Phuket (56%) and Chiang Mai (56%).

Travel bug cases among Gen Z and Thai Millennials
Travel is a passion among Gen Z and Millennials. One in three (34%) of the Millennials and Gen Z respondents expect to take five or more holidays by 2024, with an average of 4.1 trips annually.
Eight out of ten respondents, or 79%, said that dining out was their top trip expense. This result was consistent across all generations. Millennials and Gen Z were found to spend similarly on shopping (59%) and activities (58%), even though shopping (76%) is undoubtedly the second biggest expense among Gen X respondents, after activities (46%).
