Police have arrested a taxi driver after he slashed a female passenger with a knife during a heated argument. The woman sustained a broken hand and received 20 stitches to her head at a Bangkok Hospital.
According to police the victim and two friends used a ride hailing app to summon a taxi after a night of partying. When the taxi arrived the driver was agitated because the group were drunk and had given him poor directions of where to pick them up.
While driving to their destination the victim asked the driver to stop as she was going to be sick. The driver stopped the taxi, the woman got out and proceeded to vomit for about 5 minutes, she then returned to the cab and the driver continued onto their destination.
The woman then once again asked the driver to stop as she was going to be sick. This time the driver refused and handed her a bag and told her to get sick in the bag. The woman then opened the window and got sick into the plastic bag.
When they finally got to their destination an argument broke out over the fare. The driver demanded 500 baht extra for stopping the taxi for the woman while she got sick and for getting sick out the window of his taxi.
The woman refused to pay the 500 baht and said she never got sick on his cab and she would only offer 200 baht compensation on top of the fare. The taxi drive then pulled out a knife and proceeded to attack the woman, slashing at her face and arms until she fell. He then jumped back into his taxi and sped away.
Her friends immediately summoned for help and the woman was taken to hospital by rescue workers. Her friends and several witnesses that witnessed the attack gave statements to the police.
With the assistance of the ride haling app the police were able to track down the taxi driver who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and released on bail.
According to thai media, since the attack the woman and her friends contacted a lawyer and have filed a civil suit and are determined to have the mans taxi licence revoked and pay compensation for the woman’s hospital costs.
