Two Canadian tourists and three Thai women were injured after the Chao Phraya Express ferry they were travelling in was hit by a tourist boat on the right side. The incident occurred at the mouth of Khlong Bang Khon Noi, on the Thonburi side in Bangkok.
The incident occurred while the tourist boat was heading Khlong Bang Khon Noi. The Chao Phraya Express boat was traveling directly from Sathorn Pier to Nonthaburi Province.
As a result of the collision, 5 passengers on the Chao Phraya Express boat were injured: 2 Canadian men who suffered head and leg injuries, and 2 Thai women who suffered leg and chest pains. There were no passengers on the tour boat, according to Thai media.
The injured Canadians were identified as, Mr. Niwat Lertnamvongwan, 48, and Mr. Vir Lertnamvongwan, 24. They suffered head and leg injuries. The three Thai women were identified as Ms. Somruethai Thongkhomkham, 30, Ms. Naruemon Thongkhomkham, 49, and Ms. Ratchaneekorn Kladkaew, 51, they suffered minor injuries.
After the incident, the Chao Phraya Express ferry stopped at the pier at the foot of Saphan Somdech Phra Pin Klao Bridge to transport the injured to Siriraj Hospital.
At the same time, the Marine Department police seized the operators licenses of both boat drivers and ordered both boats to docked because they had to urgently clear the traffic on the Chao Phraya River because there was a royal barge rehearsal.
Marine Department police said they were collecting CCTV footage from around the area as the investigation continues. The injured were told to file police reports so they can seek compensation for their injuries once the case had been finalized.
According to the Marine Police, accidents on the Chao Phraya River have been an ongoing concern. Various ferries, cargo ships, and private boats pass by each other daily on the crowded waterway. These boats frequently navigate congested areas of marine traffic, which increases the chance of collisions.
