Police in Chiang Rai have arrested a 59-year-old man for killing and dismembering his wife and then strewing them them in the middle of road in front of his home Mae Riap Village, Village 2, Chok Chai Subdistrict, Doi Luang District.
Lt. Col. Trikitti Sinthaisong, Deputy Superintendent told reporters that when the investigation team were called to the scene they found the body of a woman, later identified as Ms. Jinda, aged 59, dead, and her head, left leg, and right leg had been cut off and scattered in the middle of the road. The police officers cordoned off the area and called for forensic examiners from Chiang Rai Province Police division.
The officers then went to inspect the house where the couple lived and found Mr. Sommai, 59, heavily intoxicated. He was holding an axe and a knife and was covered in blood. When the officers tried to talk to him he was completely belligerent and had to be subdued with a taser gun.
Upon inspecting the home they found blood on the floor, and blood drops on the stairs leading to the second floor. On the second floor of the house they found a large pool of blood where forensic investigator believe is where Mr. Sommai murdered and dismembered his wife. In the same room they also found a refrigerator containing a leg of the victim.
His relatives revealed that the man had a history of being treated for Psychosis due to heavy drug use and alcohol addiction. He had recently returned from treatment and hadn’t been taking his medication, which may have caused him to become delirious and commit this tragic incident.
The victims body was sent to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, Mueang Chiang Rai District, for a detailed autopsy, while police officer took Mr. Sommai to Doi Luang Police Station where he would be examined by a doctor before any charges could be laid.
