(CTN News) – According to a source from the local media, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to go to Ukraine in the next month. This would be his first trip to the nation since the beginning of the conflict with Russia, and it will come only a few weeks after he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

It was said by the Ukrainian embassy in New Delhi that they did not have any information to give at this time. Unfortunately, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not provide a prompt answer.

When Moscow launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Western nations responded by imposing sanctions on the Russian government. However, “friendly” states like India and China have continued to engage in commerce with Moscow.

For the time being, India has refrained from explicitly condemning Russia, but it has strongly encouraged both countries to settle their problems via negotiation and diplomatic procedures.

A Russian missile targeted a hospital in Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of at least 41 people, just as Modi was meeting with Putin. In a conversation with Putin, the leader of India expressed that the deaths of innocent children were “painful and terrifying.”

It was a “huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts” to witness Modi embrace “the world’s most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day,” according to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who voiced his displeasure with Modi’s visit.

Russia has denied that it attacked the hospital. Particularly at a time when it has been striving to deepen relationships with India as a possible counterbalance to a rising China, the United States Department of State has expressed worries over India’s connection with Russia.

However, these concerns have been raised. For the time being, New Delhi is working to strengthen its relationships with the West while also maintaining its connections with Russia.

Saturday’s edition of The Print indicated that the definitive date of Modi’s visit has not yet been established.
