The Prime Minister’s Office Minister has announced that the Thai importer and distributor of BYD cars in Thailand will provide past consumers of approximately 50,000 of its electric vehicles with one year of complimentary charging in order to make up for recent price reductions.
Jiraporn Sindhuprai, the Prime Minister’s Office Minister, discussed the service with Rever Automotive management on Wednesday announced that it will be accessible at 2,000 charging stations across the country starting on Thursday.
Substantial reductions that diminished the value of their previous purchases were the subject of numerous complaints from BYD car customers, which initiated the offer.
In response to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s appeal to the CEO of BYD, who was recently in Thailand for the formal inauguration of the Chinese EV maker’s production site, Ms Jiraporn stated that Rever was also investigating supplementary measures.
“The discussions regarding the implementation of subsequent measures to ensure fair treatment of consumers were encouraging,” stated Ms. Jiraporn, the individual responsible for consumer protection. “The initial measure is being taken so that consumers feel that they are being compensated.”
After reducing the price of the BYD Dolphin by 140,000 and 160,000 baht and the Atto by 100,000 to 340,000 baht, Rever Automotive encountered significant backlash.
Some purchasers reported that salespeople had previously pressured them to make a quick decision due to the impending expiration of current promotional rates. Subsequently, they experienced substantial savings when they acquired their automobiles.
According to Thailand’s Trade Competition Commission, the price wars between EV makers and dealers did not contravene trade competition regulations; rather, they facilitated competition.
Nevertheless, numerous electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, with the majority of them being Chinese, have expressed apprehension regarding the damaging effects of an extended pricing war on the industry’s credibility.
