(CTN News) – The signing of ExxonMobil’s fourth carbon capture and storage (CCS) deal with a major industrial client is the most recent indicator that the company is developing its leadership position in this highly important technology for lowering emissions.
We are going to transport and permanently store up to 500,000 metric tonnes per year (MTA) of carbon dioxide that has been extracted from the CF Industries complex in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
The manufacturing of nitrogen compounds for use in agricultural fertiliser and other essential commodities is the responsibility of this facility.
CF Industries will be able to reduce the quantity of carbon dioxide emissions produced at the site by as much as fifty percent as a result of the initiative that has been taken.
ExxonMobil 2028 is the year set aside for launch.
Due to the fact that we have reached this ExxonMobil arrangement, we have committed to storing a total of up to 5.5 million MTA worth of carbon dioxide for the benefit of our customers. As a consequence of this, about two million automobiles that are powered by petrol would be replaced with electric vehicles.
This figure is more than the total number of electric vehicles that would be sold in the United States in the year 2023. There is another company that has not made any commitments to carbon capture and storage of this level.
ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions President Dan Ammann stated, “We are serious about expanding carbon capture, which is a safe and proven solution for industries that are difficult to decarbonise.” Carbon capture is a technology that has been demonstrated to be effective.
CF Industries is the most recent example of how we are able to support industrial clients in making significant progress in a timely and cost-effective manner. The arrangement that we have concluded with CF Industries is the most recent illustration of how we enable this assistance.
In Mississippi, we are working on our second carbon capture and storage project with CF Industries, which is located in Illinois.
This project is our first one in Mississippi. In an editorial post that was published not too long ago, former Governor Haley Barbour noted that carbon capture has the ability to not only contribute to the growth of the state’s economy but also to cut emissions.
ExxonMobil’s growing carbon capture and storage network.
Through its extensive experience in the field of carbon capture, ExxonMobil has amassed more than thirty years of knowledge.
In terms of pipelines that transport carbon dioxide, we are the owners and operators of the most extensive ExxonMobil network in the country. As a result of its location, the CF Industries facility in Donaldsonville, Louisiana will be the first place to establish a connection to that network. The launch of the company is predicted to take place in the year 2025.
In order to achieve our ambitious emissions reduction goals, carbon capture and storage will be a key component,” said Tony Will, president and chief executive officer of CF Industries. “CCS will play a significant role in achieving our goals.”
According to the organizations, ExxonMobil’s leading expertise is crucial to accelerating our journey towards decarbonisation, so we are pleased to expand our relationship with them for our second carbon capture and storage project together.
ExxonMobil’s carbon capture and storage is both strong and versatile.
Specifically for heavy industries, which are responsible for more than a quarter of the world’s CO2 emissions tied to energy, carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a powerful and versatile technology that may be utilised to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
This is especially true for heavy businesses.
In addition, carbon capture and storage (CCS) is completely risk-free because both storage facilities and pipelines are subject to severe standards and are constructed to decrease the likelihood of any threats to the environment.
Our training course for emergency pipeline safety, which is intended for first responders in the surrounding area, was recently expanded to include CO2 pipes.
The recent expansion that we were able to accomplish made this expansion conceivable. First responders from Yazoo City were among those who took part in the most recent training session that we had arranged for ourselves.
