For the second consecutive day, the Sai River in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district has continued flooding both Sai Lom Joy Market and Tha Lo Market at the border. The Tachilek area, in particular, is even worse, with rescue workers having to help villagers through the flooded areas.

The “Chan River” has overflowed into the market and communities in the Mae Chan district of Chiang Rai.

Continuous rain throughout Chiang Rai Province and the Thai-Myanmar border has caused the Sai River to continue overflowing and flooding the areas along its banks, especially the entrance to the Sai Lom Joy Market.

On the Tachilek side of Myanmar, there are still serious problems, especially the Tachilek Market, which is constantly flooded by the Sai River, causing many roads, houses, markets, etc. to be flooded over a wide area.

Volunteer rescuer workers in Tachilek helped people wading through the flooded roads in the middle of the city. They had to use ropes to help people move around and push small cars through low-lying areas to higher ground.

While the rivers are flooding both sides of the border, the Chan River, which flows through Tambon Pa Teng, Amphoe Mae Chan – Mae Chan Municipality, has overflowed its banks and flooded low-lying areas.

Mae Chan Municipality officials and rescue workers had to build a barrier at the bridge neck to prevent water overflowing into the community and market. They will also use water pumps to quickly drain the water and remove weeds and obstacles from canals to reduce overflow.

The Chiang Rai Disaster and Mitigation Department reported the areas at risk of flash floods and flooding:

Mae Salong Nai Sub-district, Mae Salong Nok Sub-district, Mae Fah Luang District, Pa Teng Sub-district, Mae Chan District, Mae Yao Sub-district, Ban Du Sub-district, Mueang Chiang Rai District.
