Pha Mueang Army soldiers in Chiang Rai have unearthed 11.5 kilometers of telecom cable to the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, Mueang Ton Phueng, Bo Kaeo Subdistrict, along the Mekong River opposite Chiang Saen District.

Kittirat Panphet, Director of the Information Technology Crime Suppression CenterThe Royal Thai Police told CTN News that Pha Mueang Army soldiers and related agencies inspected the transmission of telephone signals and high-speed internet in the border area of Chiang Rai Province on July 23 to prevent the illegal transmission of signals to scammers or call center gangs.
They discovered signals being sent to the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and a set of transmission lines buried in the ground were discovered on the border in Mae Chan District, next to Myanmar,close to the Second Special Administrative Region where towns have been built to accommodate Casinos in Laos.
The telecom transmission lines ran for 11.5 kilometers from the Thai side of the Chiang Rai-Myanmar border, crossing over in Myanmar into the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
He said the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will investigate to find the parties involved that purchased the transmission lines and illegal communication towers and proceed with legal proceedings.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Thatchai Pitanilabutr, Assistant Police Commissioner in his capacity as DeputyDirector of the Police Crime Suppression Division who was also present at the press briefing that “Blow up the Thieves’ Bridge” operation is working to cut off any signals so that they cannot be used illegally, especially by call center gangs.
He said they have already begun cutting all types of cross-border signals and are working with NBTC officials in the area to carry out the work.
Police will work with the NBTC to understand about how signals are used across the country, including SIM systems, cables, and towers. If there is a violation of the law, immediate action will be taken.
Immigration police and border officials will crackdown on entry and exit of individuals from Myanmar and Laoto inhibit involvement with call center gangs. He said the call center gang’s base is known to be overseas.
Recently Thai authorities have prosecuted 33 people who illegally installed cell towers and transmission lines along the Thailand- Myanmar border to supply to call center gangs. Authorities have cut off more than 2 million mobile phone signals and suspended the transmission of telecommunications signals. They have also removed telecom cables and equipment (transmission towers) at 179 points in 11 districts in 9 provinces.
