The Myanmar military Junta bombed a hospital in Laukkai city of the northern Shan State on early Saturday morning around 1am. The explosions not only damaged the hospital, but also damaged more than 10 buildings surrounding the hospital.
Ten Laukkai villagers were killed and more than 10 were injured by the bombing.
According to Shan State Media the drone bomb attack by the Myanmar Junta Army resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of soldiers who were being treated at the hospital, including Maj. Gen. Soe Tin, the former commander of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) group.
As the bombs hit the hospital, a large number of Myanmar Junta soldiers stormed in to attack ethnic minority troops the who were inside the hospital. A gunfight erupted killing ethnic soldiers, doctors, nurses, staff, patients, and relatives of patients who were in the hospital.
Myanmar’s northern Shan state has been rocked by fighting since late June when an alliance of ethnic minority armed groups renewed an offensive against the Military Junta in the northern Shan State that borders China.
The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) group have held Laukkai city since January after more than 2,000 Myanmar Junta troops surrendered in one of the military’s biggest defeats in decades.
According to ShanNews Media the junta has bombed Laukkai city several times in recent weeks shredding a China-brokered ceasefire.
Myanmar’s Shan State is home to myriad ethnic armed groups who have battled the military Junta since independence from Britain in 1948 for autonomy and control of lucrative resources.
China has been accused by the United States of being a major ally and arms supplier to the Myanmar junta, analysts say China also maintains ties with armed ethnic groups in Myanmar that hold territory near its border.
