(CTN News) – During the first half of this year, Cambodia received 955,000 tourists from Thailand, making Thailand the region’s most significant supplier of tourists for the nation.

China, which was Cambodia’s primary supplier of tourists before the outbreak, has now been relegated to the third place with 389,360 arrivals, after Vietnam with 640,000. This information comes from the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism.

Thailand beats China to become Cambodia’s largest source of visitors

The number of Chinese visitors who visited Cambodia during that time climbed by 45 percent compared to the previous year, and the monarchy is working to boost the number of Chinese tourists who visit Cambodia.

“We are eager to see more Chinese tourists as their presence has contributed to our economic growth and tourism development,” said Top Sopheak, the Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism, in an interview with the Xinhua news agency.

Between January and June, Cambodia welcomed 3.16 million visitors from other countries, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 23%.

The number of visitors from other nations that visit Cambodia is still relatively low in comparison to that of other countries in the area.

During the first half of the year, Thailand welcomed 17.5 million visitors from other countries, while Vietnam welcomed 8.8 million immigrants and Singapore welcomed 8.24 million.
