On Saturday morning, a South Korean man plunged to his death from a hotel’s tenth-floor balcony in Pattaya, bringing the total number of fatalities from persons falling off balconies to six in three months. The man was in a group of South Korean visitors who had arrived the day before.
Pol Lt Puttharak Sonkhamhan of the Pattaya City police station stated that at approximately 5 a.m., police were notified of the occurrence at the 38-story hotel in the Bang Lamung district.
Police and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation arrived at the site and discovered his body. He was identified as Mr. Byung Yong Lee, 62, from South Korea. He allegedly fell from his room’s 10th-floor balcony and landed on a fifth-floor terrace.
Pol Lt Puttharak reported that all his valuables were still in the room. A compatriot identified as Mr.Byung Yong Lee, who was sharing the room with Mr. Lee, told Pattaya police that he had woken up in the middle of the night and noticed he was gone. He said he didn’t think about it and went back to sleep.
In the morning, his compatriot discovered Mr. Lee’s shoes on the balcony and requested assistance from the front desk. They alerted security, who went to the room and noticed what appeared to be a body below while looking over the hotel room balcony.
The man’s body landed on the fifth-floor terrace’s garden.
Mr. Byung Yong Lee told police they had been friends for over 30 years. He said that after a night of drinking, they went back to their hotel and went to sleep. He said his friend never mentioned any problems in his life and seemed to be in a good mood before they went to sleep.
Pol Lt Puttharak said the man’s body was brought to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for forensic analysis, and the Korean Embassy in Bangkok would be notified along with relatives.
