(CTN News) – Imran Khan, the former prime minister, declined to undergo polygraph, photogrammetry, and voice matching tests, despite a Lahore police team’s efforts to interview him on a dozen instances relating to the May 9 riots.
A 12-person team commanded by DSP Javed Asif and includes officers from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) arrived to Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan has been imprisoned for nearly a year.
The team, which included the cases’ investigation officers (IOs) and PFSA experts Abid Ayub and Inspector Waqas Khalid, attempted to question the former premier and conduct the appropriate tests.
Imran Khan first refused to answer police questions, citing distrust in the authorities and insisting on the presence of his lawyers. “I am under investigation by several agencies and will not be taking any tests for the time being.” “I will give the police time later to conduct various tests,” he stated.
However, after receiving guarantees from DSP Asif that justice would be served, Imran Khan agreed to answer questions for roughly 15 minutes but declined the demanded tests.
It was the Lahore police team’s second visit. On Monday, a team led by DSP Javed, consisting of Inspector Rana Akmal, Rana Arham, Alam Langrial, Rana Muneer, and Muhammad Ali, came at Adiala jail at 4 p.m. and waited for almost 3.5 hours to investigate Mr Khan. However, he refused to let the team investigate him.
According to an official familiar with the situation, the team notified Imran Khan that he was a “nominated accused person” in 12 cases involving anti-terrorism, inciting the public against the state, and other allegations emanating from the violent protests on May 9.
Mr Khan was also informed that he was on physical remand, as allowed by the court, and that investigation authorities intended to question him about the cases.
Police officers also questioned him about several parts of the May 9 disturbances, which attacked the Lahore corps commander’s home, military installations, and public property.
Following their visit, the police team and PFSA experts informed Lahore DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar about Mr Khan’s lack of cooperation. The issue will be considered at a meeting of top police officers to establish a strategy for a follow-up visit in collaboration with the prosecution department.
