(CTN News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a significant reduction in fares for Pakistanis planning to perform Umrah in the coming month. The discounted rates will be available until July 15, offering substantial savings for pilgrims.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that Umrah pilgrims traveling from Pakistan to Madina would benefit from these lowered fares.
The two-way ticket from Lahore and Islamabad to Madina is now priced at Rs86,000, while the two-way ticket from Karachi to Madina will cost Rs76,000. These rates do not include taxes. Previously, the cost of an Umrah ticket was Rs120,000.
The spokesperson also mentioned that the discounted fares are effective immediately and will remain in place until July 15.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambitious Plans to Increase Umrah Pilgrims
Umrah, a pilgrimage that can be performed year-round, takes place in the Grand Mosque of Makkah. The new Umrah season commenced earlier this month, following the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which saw 1.8 million Muslims from around the world participate.
Saudi Arabia is reportedly aiming to increase the number of Muslims performing Umrah to 30 million annually. “Every year, there is an increase in numbers,” Gulf News quoted Abdulrahman bin Fahd, an assistant undersecretary for Umrah Affairs.
Speaking to local TV channel Al Ekhbariya, the Saudi official outlined plans to target more than 10 million Umrah pilgrims this year.
This move by PIA comes as a welcome relief for Pakistani pilgrims, offering them an opportunity to fulfill their spiritual journey at a more affordable cost.
