Police in central Thailand have reported a 28-year-old woman has been killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a Honda sedan and two Mazda sedans in Pathum Thani Province.
According to a police spokesperson, a Honda sedan overtaking on a bridge was unable to pass, lost control and collided head-on with two other cars coming in the opposite direction.
When Police officers inspected an accident scene, they found one deceased woman, identified as Ms. Narathip, 28 years old, the driver of the black Mazda 2, and two injured people who were in the white Honda sedan that caused the accident.
They were identified as Ms. Phatirat, 35, and Mr. Prosecutor, 33. Both were taken to Bangpakok Rangsit Hospital in serious condition.
According to police, the accident occurred at midnight on the bridge crossing the Wat Phra Dhammakaya intersection in Tambon Khlong Song, Amphoe Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani Province.
A review of the camera footage from the Honda sedan that caused the accident found that the car was speeding faster than the others when it went up the bridge and tried to overtake a taxi. However, it lost control and almost hit the barrier on the side of the road.
The driver tried to turn the steering wheel back but could not control the vehicle and crashed into a black Mazda 2 and then a Grey Mazda sedan coming in the opposite direction.
When police interviewed the uninjured owner of the grey Mazda sedan, he said that he was driving up the bridge when suddenly, the Honda sedan on the opposite side spun from the middle of the bridge before crashing into the black Mazda in front of him and then spinning back into his car.
Later, Mr. Thiwakorn, 27 years old, the boyfriend of the deceased, traveled to meet the police and revealed that his girlfriend worked at a private company in Mueang District.
He said his girlfriend had gone to visit a friend not long before the incident, and she called to say that she was heading home. However, after a long time passed and she hadn’t arrived home, he believed something was wrong, so he called, but the call was not answered.
When he called again, a rescue worker answered and said that his girlfriend had an accident, so he rushed to the scene.
Pol. Lt. Kriangkrai Srimai, Deputy Chief of Investigation, Khlong Luang Police Station, said police the footage from the Honda sedan and CCTV footage from traffic cameras on the bridge to be used as evidence.
He said police would travel to question the driver of the Honda sedan who was injured to proceed with legal action.
The deceased woman’s body was handed over to rescue workers to be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Thammasat University Hospital.
