The police forensics laboratory in Bangkok has reported that the police officer and her two daughters that were found dead in their home in Chonburi province died from  toxic fumes from sulfuric acid.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwpaen, commander of the Police Forensic Science Office, announced the results of the examination of the mother and her two daughters who died in a house in Bang Plasoi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi Province Monday.

He stated that after the incident and receiving the report, forensic officers went to inspect the scene and learned from witnesses that before the incident, a family member had gone to buy a drain cleaner for a clogged pipe in the bathroom in the house.

Forensic officers found four empty bottles of the toxic drain cleaner in the bathroom, along with the bodies of a policewoman and her two daughters. They were identified as Pol Capt Ananya Busayakul, 58, and her daughters Jitpisut, 34, and Pannika, 25.

He said the sulfuric acid they used to clear the drain was difficult to find. It is not sold in general department stores, but can be found in construction material stores. Initial findings indicate that the drain cleaner was without a FDA approval and had no markings stating it was a hazardous substance.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong advised the public to exercise caution when using household chemicals and to consistently adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions. He also said they were conducting an investigation into the origin of the drain solvent and whether it is possible to pursue legal action against the manufacturer or distributor.
