(CTN News) – According to a statement posted on Saturday, the Thai Meteorological Department has warned about a growing tropical cyclone in the South China Sea.
On Saturday, around 4 a.m., a depression was located in the central South China Sea at 15.0°N latitude and 115.0°E longitude. Near its center, the system had maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour and was moving slowly north-northwest.

Meteorologists forecast this depression will develop into a tropical storm within 24 to 48 hours. The storm’s estimated route is crossing Hainan Island before landing in southern China between July 21 and 23.
“Although Thailand is not directly affected by this system, we always encourage the public to be weather-aware, especially during the monsoon season,” a spokesperson for the meteorological department stated.
While the storm is not expected to directly impact Thailand’s weather, authorities advise caution for people traveling to vulnerable areas. Travelers are advised to verify weather conditions before leaving and to stay updated on any potential changes in the storm’s direction.
The department will continue to offer updates on the evolving weather system. The next announcement is slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday.
