The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) projects that the French market would grow significantly following the Paris Olympic Games, bringing in 42 billion baht (US$1.17 billion) in income in 2024, despite the fact that fewer tourists are anticipated for the event.
The French market is going through a quiet phase, according to Soraya Homchuen, TAT director of the Paris office, because the nation completed two rounds of elections on June 30 and July 7. Throughout the Paris Olympics, which run from July 26 to August 11, the number of visitors will continue to decline because many residents will be working as event organizers.
Nonetheless, the agency forecasted that the market will quickly rebound following the Olympics, despite lower attendance this year due to residents’ worries about rising costs and heavy traffic in Paris.
As part of a “Olympic Getaway” campaign the agency began with Carrefour in May, approximately 600 vacation packages were sold. The campaign will run until August in an effort to attract tourists following the events.
In order to start another flash sales promotional event during the Olympic Games, the agency will also collaborate with a sizable internet agent.
Thailand’s Anticipation of 42 Billion THB Revenue from French Market in 2024
Thailand had 380,013 French visitors in the first half of this year; the goal for the entire year was 661,000 arrivals, bringing in 42.9 billion baht, or the same amount of money that was made in 2019.
According to her, the first-half figure exceeded the annual target’s midway point, and the market’s projected spending per person is 65,008 baht, more than the average of 55,000 baht.
Reduced airfare is another factor, according to Soraya, that will support the post-Olympic market.
She stated that since June, airfares have been declining, excluding the time around the Olympics.
Since direct flights between Thailand and France have only recovered by 70–75 baht, seat capacity is still a challenge.
