(CTN News) – In a poll of 87 countries, the monarchy ranked 29th as the best country overall.

According to government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, usnews.com voted Thailand fourth among the world’s most beautiful countries, trailing only New Zealand, Greece, and Italy.

He explained that the list, which falls under the “adventure” genre of the US News 2023 Best Countries rankings, was produced from a global survey of countries deemed the most scenic.

Of the 87 countries on the list, New Zealand ranked first for most scenic and ninth overall. Greece (27th) and Italy (15th) ranked second and third in scenic beauty, respectively.

Thailand, meanwhile, was ranked fourth in the scenic category and 29th overall.

“Thailand, which translates to ‘land of the free’, is the only Southeast Asian country that Europeans have not colonized. The kingdom is located just above the equator, jammed onto the Indochina peninsula with neighbors Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, and has an arm that extends out to Malaysia, according to the USNews description.

“Thailand is one of the world’s most visited countries. However, tourism accounts for only 7% of GDP. “Buddha figures are ever-present in the ‘land of smiles’, where bustling, modern cities are juxtaposed with ancient ruins, glistening beaches, and gilded temples,” the statement stated.

Switzerland topped the Best Country rankings, followed by Canada, Sweden, Australia, and the United States. The rankings include matrices for adventure, agility, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, business openness, quality of life, and social purpose.

“In recent years, Thailand has won high tourism-related rankings by several institutes, highlighting our leadership position as a global tourism destination,” says Chai.

He also mentioned that Bangkok was awarded the finest city in Asia Pacific, Phuket and Samui were designated the region’s third and fourth best islands, and Suvarnabhumi Airport was named the second-best airport in the region by DestinAsian, a renowned regional travel and lifestyle magazine.

Meanwhile, CEOWORLD magazine ranked Thailand first on its list of the Best Countries to Visit in Your Lifetime in 2024.

The BeachAtlas website has selected Phuket’s Maya Beach as the world’s fifth-finest beach.

“The government aims to continue promoting the tourism industry by attracting foreigners to visit the kingdom in 2025,” Chai told reporters. “We have also prepared campaigns for the low season and to expand tourism routes to secondary provinces to ensure comprehensive distribution of tourism revenues to all communities.”
