(CTN News) – The surge in tourist visits may be attributed, in part, to the short-term school vacations held in Asia and the extended school holidays held in Europe.
According to an announcement made by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports on Tuesday, Thailand received 20,335,107 tourists from other countries between January 1 and July 28. According to the ministry, these tourists jointly produced around 957.31 billion baht for Thai businesses.
Thailand welcomes 20 million foreign tourists in first 7 months
With 4,065,109 visitors, China was the most important source market for tourists from other countries that came to Thailand. This was followed by Malaysia with 2,837,922 arrivals, India with 1,186,288, South Korea with 1,073,792, and Russia with 996,990 visits.
In the preceding week (July 22–28), there were a total of 716,631 foreign arrivals into Thailand, which is equivalent to an average of 102,376 foreigners entering the country per day, according to Minister Sermsak Pongpanich.
This number has climbed by 7,367, which is equivalent to a 1.04% increase over the previous week. According to him, the previous week coincided with a school vacation in short-haul markets such as South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
As a consequence, the number of arrivals in these countries increased by 0.85% compared to the previous week.
At the same time, the week marked the beginning of summer vacations in Europe and the Middle East, which resulted in a rise of 1.57% in the number of visitors coming from long-distance markets.
According to Sermsak’s forecast, the number of international arrivals during this week (July 29-August 4) will stay relatively unchanged. The elements that will contribute to this outcome include the summer vacations in Europe, the initiatives taken by the government to make travel easier, and the ongoing increase in the number of flights.
When compared to the record of almost 40 million tourists from other countries in 2019, before the pandemic, the government is aiming for 36.7 million visitors from other countries in 2024.
