Police and rescuers searching for a missing Belgian tourist report discovering her body near a creek Pai district of Mae Hong Son province.
28-year-old Cloe Ferrari disappeared Friday while riding her bicycle in the Pai district of Mae Hong Son province. Her dead body was found on Saturday, apparently having drowned in a local stream.
Tourist Police joined with officers from the Pai station and rescue workers on Friday after receiving reports that Ms Ferari had disappeared while riding her bicycle.
After authorities announced they were searching for her, a resident reported finding her bicycle parked along the path to the Mae Yen waterfall, about 7km east of Pai in Mae Hong Son province.
According to local Thai media, heavy rain and forest runoff hindered their search efforts, and rescuer could only resume their search at daybreak on Saturday.
Rescue workers and local police followed the pathway from where her bicycle was discovered, and her clothes were discovered alongside Mae Yen Creek. Her body was later found downstream.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and have coordinated with the Belgian embassy in Bangkok.
