The non-profit organization Hope Thailand, which is committed to the prevention of animal cruelty, is demanding local officials stop villagers from conducting a ritualistic dog sacrifice in northern Thailand’s Nan Province.
According to Hope Thailand’s Facebook page, the village headman halted the ritual, which was scheduled at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, following the organization’s intervention.
A Hope Thailand official stated that he was contacted by Krit, who initially discovered the dog sacrificial ritual on social media and subsequently requested assistance from the organization.
After fact-checking, the organization’s personnel determined that the report was genuine.
He also stated that he subsequently contacted Sawat, the headman of Ban Huai Klaeb, and requested that the ritual be immediately halted, as it violated the law prohibiting animal cruelty.
The official also contacted the superintendent of the Livestock Development Office in Nan, requesting that they dispatch a veterinarian to the village to consult with the headman. The headman subsequently convened a meeting with the village committee, during which it was determined that the ritual would be “postponed.”
According to Thai PBS, the village committee is exerting significant pressure on Krit’s parents because her son disclosed the ritual. The committee has insisted that Krit returns to the village from Lampang to explain his actions.
According to Hope Thailand, Mr. Krit and his parents’ safety is now a matter of concern as villagers are upset over him reporting the unlawful sacrifice of the dog and requesting assistance from the deputy governor of Nan.
Meanwhile, officials from Hope Thailand intend to visit Ban Huai Klaeb Village in Nan Province to discuss ending this hideous practice with the village headman and inform the villagers of the laws that safeguard animals.
